The Hawaii State PTSA and all of its local units simply are not able to function without committees and volunteers. There are numerous volunteer opportunities at the State, region and local unit levels as follows:

At the State Level
The state Board of Directors is comprised of volunteers whose sole purpose is furthering the mission of PTA.They oversee our statewide efforts to advocate on behalf of children and youth in our state, to increase parent involvement in the schools, to promote educational, health and welfare programs across the state, and provide support services, guidance, and leadership training & development to our local units and their individual board members.

Standing committees of the Hawaii State PTSA help to facilitate the business of the organization.Generally, they consist of members of the Board of Directors, however, we seek participation from the general membership to both encourage the growth of leadership within the organization as well as present a local unit perspective to these committees.Standing committees of the Hawaii State PTSA are:

·Budget and Finance
·Bylaws
·Headquarters
·Legislative
·Membership
·Nominating and Leadership Development
·Health and Welfare
·Resolutions
·Convention

Nominating and Leadership Development Committee – is responsible for seeking out and identifying future leaders of the organization on an ongoing basis. The committee searches for individuals who demonstrate the skills needed and have the potential to lead our organization into the future.

Convention Committee – plans, coordinates, and executes the annual convention of Hawaii State PTSA. The committee selects a convention theme, recommends and arranges for workshops & presenters, coordinates pre- and post-convention meetings, works with exhibitors and advertisers, and handles registration, etc.

Health & Welfare Committee – whose purpose is to promote National and State health and safety related programs. The committee also seeks out other associations that offer programs consistent with our mission and purpose and shares information on these programs with our membership.

Administrative Support – answering phones, inputting information into our databases, photocopying, assembling, and collating pamphlets, mail-outs, training materials, etc.

Region Level
Each of our 9 regions has a region director who acts as liaison between our local units and the state Board of Directors. They provide ongoing support services, attend school functions, and work closely with local unit board members.Region Directors may require volunteers for the following:

Region Nominating Committee Member – responsible for recommending candidates for state board positions that are coming up for election. This is an extremely important task and carries a year-round responsibility of actively searching for qualified, willing individuals who possess the skills needed to further the mission of PTA at the state board level.

Region Legislative Chair – works with the region director, our legislative vice-president, and state legislative chair on state or national issues affecting our children and families and is responsible for keeping abreast of those legislative issues and sharing information with all local units in their regions. They may also serve as the official spokesperson for that region’s local units in bringing forth matters of concern to the state board.

Reflections Chair – works with the region director and our state programs/reflections chair in promoting and overseeing the Reflections program at the region level. They work directly with local units, providing information and support and plans and coordinates a recognition event for participating students and their families.

Membership Chair – is responsible for encouraging membership at the region and local unit level and assisting in membership drive efforts and works directly with the state membership vice-president to increase the organization’s statewide membership.

Outreach & Support Chair – works directly with the region director to plan and organize region meetings, as needed.Along with the region director, represents the Hawaii State PTSA at local unit events and activities, and provides guidance and support to local unit board members, as needed.
