HAWAII STATE PTSA's
2006 ANNUAL LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE
What you do to improve laws, policies, and conditions on behalf of children is advocacy, whether at school, in your communities or at the state and federal levels. National PTA defines advocacy as the “act of mobilizing individuals and local units” to work with their State PTA’s and National PTA to spark changes in programs and policies that benefit children. Effective advocacy campaigns are built on activities and events that –
- keep PTA issues visible
- keep members informed on issues affecting children
- motivate people to act
National PTA’s annual resources guide contains a section devoted entirely to empowering local PTA members with effective strategies and resources for advocacy.Local units in good standing may obtain the most recent copy of this valuable resource by contacting their region director or the Hawaii State PTSA office. Members with access may also download this information from National PTA’s website “Members Only” section.
